Domestic violence is an unspeakable act in our society, which unfortunately is what fuels it.
The distressing statistic in Australia is that nearly every week one woman dies from domestic violence. Imagine how many heartbroken parents, grief-stricken siblings and bewildered children are left behind with a gaping hole where their loved one used to be.
The longer you stay, the worse it gets and the harder it is to leave. There is no one to turn to, no one to help when you need them the most. Why? Because we don’t tell anyone, due to shame, guilt, denial or possibly even because we don’t realise what is happening to us. This needs to stop, by not telling we are protecting the perpetrator not ourselves.
